β π π Something that I've heard from quite a few different clients recently has been,
β π π
I know I need help. I know I have to stop being the bottleneck, but I just don't even know where to start. So I'm gonna break down the exact steps that I follow in part of my delegation strategy with clients so that you can tackle this on your own.
π βWelcome to Strategy Solutions and Sanity, the show for family run businesses and small teams who are done letting chaos run the show. I'm Sam, business and team strategist and your No Fluff Guide to Making Business Simple and Fun. This is a quick cast, a short, sharp dose of strategy and action. 'cause I know sometimes you just need that quick next step to get your sanity back.
So let's get into it.
Step one is just clarity around your business model and what you want your customers to experience. So I firmly believe that every business breaks down into three categories.
β π π
Marketing and sales, business development, whatever you wanna call that category. It's how you get your customers or clients in the door in the first place.
Then you've got your π service or π product delivery. That's kind of the bulk of your operations. And then you've got π cash management. All your accounting, bookkeeping, cash flow, payroll, all that stuff is in that category. Encompassing everything is team management and those HR functions. But really those are the three pillars that every business breaks down into.
So take those three pillars and π just start brain dumping and writing down everything that needs to happen for your business to function from how you get clients that want the work you do to how you deliver on that work and how you get paid for that work. Stay high level. This is a quick brain dump of all the tasks or processes that need to happen for your business to function.
Step two is to look at that brain dump and start highlighting and π circling the things that you're currently involved in. All the things that are eating up at your day, everything that you are involved in in your business let's highlight that. Then for step three, we're gonna put all that to the side and we're gonna write your job description as the π CEO Founder, president, whatever you call yourself, you need a job description as well before you hire an assistant or anyone on your team to start delegating to.
So figure out what are the tasks. That you actually want to be doing in your business, the things that you enjoy. Now, sometimes there are things that we don't enjoy that still need to be on your job description. We're gonna put all that into one category. Then comparing that to what we did in step two, so all the tasks that need to happen for your business to function, compare and contrast between the things you're currently doing and the things that you want to be doing.
Okay. Anything that is on the list of what you're currently doing that you don't wanna be doing, π that's the stuff to delegate. Maybe that doesn't make sense to put all on an assistant. Maybe you do need to hire more than one role, but those are the steps to follow, to get clarity on how to stop being the bottleneck in your business and start building the team around you that will actually move the needle and actually help your team run smoother so that management doesn't feel like another to do.
Now this works whether you have a service based business, a product based business, blue collar, whatever. Even if you already have a team this process works because no matter what stage of business you're in, you gotta have clarity on what needs to happen and where exactly you should be involved versus where you π should butt out.
All right. That's the process we follow in our mini delegation strategy sessions with our clients, and that wraps up our quick cast for today.
